We Help You Reach Your Goals

God designed us to thrive. In the monotony of life sometimes it feels like we are just going through the motions and not actually getting where we want to go. Other times, it may feel like you’ve been knocked down so many times that it’s hard to even see which way is up.

A coach (or “life coach”) can help you break through the obstacles of those stuck feelings and get you from Point A to Point B. They can offer the tools and perspective needed to help you experience the life you were designed to live.

Differences Between Counseling and Coaching

You may have noticed that the rest of our group practice is more about counseling (aka “therapy” or “psychotherapy”). Our name even includes the word “counseling.” Yet, here we are promoting coaching services. At Morning Light Christian Counseling, we have chosen to include both services because we see the benefit of both for our clients. Both our counselors and our coaches are trained professionals with specific skills/experiences to help our clients live in hope and freedom. While counseling and coaching do have some similarities, there are some important differences. Here are a few of those differences:

  • A counselor is a healthcare provider. A life coach is a professional, who could have experience in a variety of professions (i.e., leadership, finances, relationships, family, fitness, etc.).
  • Counseling may include a diagnosis, treatment plan, and specific therapy model. Coaching will include clarifying goals, identifying obstacles, and defining action-based steps to achieve specific results.
  • Counseling can be more long-term and include deep processing of recent or past traumas and grief. Coaching is typically more short-term and focuses on the present/future.

Tony Robbins, a renowned life coach, distinguishes the two services in this way:

"Therapy focuses on the past and on introspection and analysis, with the hope of resolving past issues and creating a happier, more stable future. A life coach enables the person receiving treatment to take control of their life and take action to steer it toward their goals."
